The Ministry of Labour has identified the different types of work that can be continued for technical reasons without a permit during the day’s peak heat hours of 12.30pm to 3pm from June 15 to September 15.

The decision was made by Mubarak Saeed of the Ministry of Labour.

Work that can be done in the afternoon without permit include pouring asphalt and concrete, actions necessary to prevent damage to essential services like water, sewerage, gas and petroleum supplies and maintaining flow of traffic.

Mubarak Saeed said employers must provide cold drinking water, salt, lemon for their employees during these hours. First Aid must also be available at work site.

Mohsin Ali, Director of the Inspection Department of the Ministry of Labor, said no permit need be obtained for work that, for technical reasons, must continue without stoppage. The ban on working from 12.30pm to 3pm will not apply for that type of work.

He also called on employers to take measures to prevent their workers from suffering from heat exhaustion or heat stroke during the peak sunshine hours in summer.
