Emirates General Petroleum Corporation “Emarat”, shut down the lights at many of its service stations in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, for a full hour on last Saturday’s evening. This action came in line with the Corporation’s commitment to the “Earth Hour” campaign, aiming to tackle the environmental changes and global warming challenges on our planet.
Mr. Hussain Kazim Manager, Corporate Communications at Emarat, said that the “Earth Hour” campaign is a global event that sheds light on what people can do, all over the world, to face the effects and damages caused by climate changes. The campaign highlights the role of individuals, communities, companies and governments in fighting the threat of the planet’s increasing temperature.
Mr. Kazim added that Emarat’s symbolic participation in this campaign, which is considered the world’s biggest voluntary movement aiming to limit energy consumption, is a part of the UAE’s governmental and private institutions commitment to this issue, and it also expresses Emarat concern about climate change and its endeavors to support global efforts that aim to face this disturbing phenomena.
2010 witnessed the largest participation so far in this campaign, as more than 128 countries, around the world, turned off their lights for one hour , including some of the most famous historic sites, from Asia to America, passing through Africa, Europe, and the Middle East of course.
