In the spirit Earth Hour 2011, HP partnered with Emirates Wildlife Society in association with WWF (EWS-WWF) to host the “Beyond Earth Hour” art competition at Dubai Festival Centre.

HP and EWS-WWF invited students from local schools to create a piece of art that signified how they would go beyond earth hour to make a difference to the environment and combat climate change.  Over 60 students showcased their work to a panel of judges including HP, EWS-WWF and Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Ali Al Nuaimi, better known as “the Green Sheikh”.
The winners, Gemma Rose M. Guiao of Philippine School, Dubai, and Hind Khalid Abdulrehman of Bint Al Shatee School, Falaj Al Mualla, were announced by a representative from EWS-WWF. Guiao and Abdulreham won for taking the concept “Beyond Earth Hour” and creating a piece of art that exhibited both creativity and originality.

“A commitment to the environment and social responsibility has been an integral part of HP’s company philosophy and brand; it is in our DNA.” Said Salim Ziade, General Manager, HP Personal Systems Group, Middle East. “We are proud to partner with EWS-WWF for an event that drives greater community awareness around how we can all change our behaviours to combat climate change.”
Earth Hour is a global sustainability movement that challenges individuals and businesses to turn their lights off for one hour and take a stand against climate change.  This year’s theme: “Beyond the Hour”, asked individuals to go beyond the hour once the lights switch back on and think about what actions can be taken to make a difference in the community.
